naming ethers

Описание к видео naming ethers

Ethers are oxygen atoms flanked on either side with a carbon-based group. Ethers are named like any other molecule. First, determine the longest carbon chain in the molecule. The ether will be connected to this chain through an oxygen. The ether is then added to the name as a substituent, specifically as an alkoxy group. The carbon group on the other side of the oxygen is abbreviated in front of oxy. For example, a CH3O group would be called a "methoxy" group. A CH3CH2O group would be an "ethoxy" group.
