Interview with the CEO of AppEsteem (featuring Jim Browning

This is a discussion between Dennis Batchelder, President of AppEsteem, Hong Jia, Chief Research Officer at AppEsteem and Jim Browning and me.

AppEsteem is a certification company that wants to fight bad actors in the software space by having a certain Code of Conduct, basically rules that you have to follow to make sure your software is ethically and legally on the good side when making business. It bans for example misleading customers into believing that they have an issue with their PC when they don't. AppEsteem conducts audits on software companies who apply for the certification and takes a fee from them.
However part of AppEsteem's already trusted apps are lots of bad actors, scareware, that uses deceptive methods and even fake popups to cash in on unaware people.

Jim Browning and me question them about how their certification process works and what they're doing to combat scammers. Are they legitimately fighting scammers and deceptive apps or are they just cashing in on certification fees? Feel free to join on and also ask questions.
