At Senate Estimates, Treasury confirmed it prepared “back pocket” briefing notes in advance of questions on the 5% deposit scheme, after being alerted the topic would be raised.

Questions remain about redactions to modelling documents and the treatment of supply assumptions. The Treasury maintains the process was properly applied.

Attention then turned to Housing Australia’s governance. Treasury’s senior official continues to attend board meetings as an observer — occasionally speaking and providing policy context, but not representing the minister.

The acting chair’s term expires in July, with no formal decision yet on whether the permanent appointment will be open, closed or direct.

Multiple governance reviews have been conducted in recent years. Officials say those processes are now “well in the past.”
