Must have (and Cheap) mods for any Sega Dreamcast

Описание к видео Must have (and Cheap) mods for any Sega Dreamcast

This time looking at mods that are worth doing to your Sega Dreamcast games console. It doesn't matter if you are using an original GD drive or a GD emu. The Dream PSU mod doesn't require any soldering and gets a lot less hot then the original power supply.

If you want to get your soldering iron out then the other mods covered here are replacing the original internal ML2032 with a holder that allows you to easily replace the internal rechargeable lithium battery when the original one no longer holds a charge and instead you get that annoying prompt to enter the time and date every time you start your Dreamcast.

The other mod is a resettable fuse for the game controller board. If you short out the control board in your Dreamcast then there is an internal fuse which looks a lot like a resistor that once blown, needs to be de-soldered and replaced. The resettable fuse will also blow if you put a faulty controller in there but just turning the console off and on again will reset it... making sure you've unplugged the faulty controller first of course.

The Dream PSU board I bought complete on AliExpress for around £20 which came complete with instructions and the necessary power supply. Lots of different sellers of this but I got this one from MOJ bag store on there. No affiliation with these guys but just the store I used and took a week to arrive. All of the AliExpress boards also seem to be marked with a website called retropsu.com which at the moment leads to a holding page.

As for the rest of the components. I bought these on eBay from a seller called Digital Delights, again no affiliation and lots of other people selling similar kits on eBay. All these items cost £3.99 with free postage in the UK. The link to this item is here:

This kit also came with a blue LED to replace the original one and a 47uF capacitor to replace the one on the controller board. These don't need to be fitted but while I was there I thought why not.

There are also other kits that allow you to use a non-rechargeable CR2032 battery instead but I believe the only difference is a diode that stops the Dreamcast from being able to charge it.
