Sultan Mehmood Ghaznavi Bloodline | Mehmud Ghaznavi Family Tree

Alp Tigin, a slave commander of Samanid empire, ruled over Ghazna. After his death, his slave Sabuktigin, father of Sultan Mehmood Ghaznavi, ruled over these lands. Sabuktigin married Alp Tigin's daughter. Sabuktigin expanded his empire to Indus river in Pakistan and to Helmand in west. After his death, his sons divided the empire but Mehmood didn't get much as compared to other brothers. So Mehmood Ghaznavi offered his brother Ismail to share these lands but Ismail refused. In 998, sultan Mehmood Ghaznavi marched to Ghazna at battle of Ghazni and captured his brother Ismail. At the young age of 27, Mahmood Ghaznavi became Sultan of Ghazna. Sultan Mehmood Ghaznavi marched to subcontinent, modern day India, Pakistan and Bangladesh.Let's take a look at why Ghaznavi attack India? Mahmud Ghazni attacked 17 times and conquered all those areas. But his attack on Somnath city and its temple i.e Somnath temple is famous. Sultan Mahmud Ghazni was offered enormous amount of wealth if he doesn't break one idol but Sultan refused. Sultan Mehmood Ghaznavi died of cholera in 1030. His son Muhammad succeeded him but after a short rule his brother Masud attacked him, blinded him and imprisoned Muhammad. Masud was a complete failed Sultan. He lost much of his empire by the Seljuks. His army rebelled against him and hisbrother Muhammad was installed again. Madud, son of Masud, avenged him and became Sultan. Masud third, Ali and Abdul Rashid became Sultans after Madud for short time. Seljuk Sultan Tughril attacked ghaznavids and took the throne. After a peace treaty between Ghaznavids and Seljuks, Farrukh Zad became Sultan. His brother Ibrahim succeeded him. His reign is considered golden era of Ghaznavids. After Ibrahim, Masud third and his sons became Sultans. Behram Shah was the last Ghaznavid Sultan who ruled Ghazni. His descendants Khusru Shah and Khusru Malik couldn't support falling empire. In 1182, Muhammad of Ghor attacked new capital Lahore and captured Sultan Khusru Malik and his son. In 1191, they were hanged which resulted in fall of Ghaznavid Empire.
