Leviticus begins with a central question: How can sinful people live near a holy God? After the tabernacle is completed and God’s glory fills it, the LORD speaks to Moses and provides a way to draw near through sacrifice. In Leviticus 1–3, we see offerings that involve substitution, worship, gratitude, and fellowship: the burnt offering, grain offering, and peace offering. In Leviticus 4, the focus turns to sin—specifically unintentional sin—and God provides the sin offering, where blood is applied for atonement. These chapters show that access to God is costly, sin is serious, and God Himself provides the way of cleansing.

What we cover in Leviticus 1–4:

Where we see Jesus:
Leviticus is saturated with the Gospel. Every sacrifice points forward to Jesus—the true and final sacrifice. The burnt offering pictures total devotion and a substitute bearing judgment. The peace offering points to reconciliation and fellowship with God. And the sin offering highlights that blood is required for atonement—fulfilled perfectly when Christ sheds His blood once for all. Leviticus doesn’t teach us how to earn God’s favor; it shows us that God provides the only way sinners can draw near—ultimately through Jesus.
