I am debating between using the Obsidian as a basecoat or as a flow extender. I decide to use it as a flow extender because I don't want tons of obsidian cells popping up in my colors. Ironically, as I tilt the excess off I stretch the surface paint over the obsidian and end up with lots and lots of obsidian cells anyway! Next time I try this I may mix the Obsidian with black to see if it cuts down on that effect. At the time I was not really liking what was happening especially on the corners, so I decide to do a small ribbon pour with what is left in my cup to cover up some of the obsidian cells. I like the fact that it adds some color back into the corners and then go ahead and put more ribbons of color on 2 of the corners. After we finished shooting I really felt like the other 2 corners needed ribbons too, so I added ribbons to those as well. Its an interesting effect. I love that the obsidian still made cells in between the ribbons haha. Later on, when editing the video I start to actually like the way the obsidian cells look. (and wonder why I wanted to get rid of them so badly haha) but there is a huge change in perspective from when you are pouring to what you are seeing on camera. Im happy I found a solution that I liked at the time. I do think I will do this again, and let the obsidian cells do what they want next time.
I always want to give you guys options of what to do if you need to change something, and at least the corner ribbons do that.
