Peak District - Kinder Scout Aircraft Crash Sites

With my bag packed, once again, I set off for the Peak District for a 2 night trip up Kinder Scout. Joining me on this camp were Kev Green, Jannu (@k9wildcamping104) and Michael Springthorpe (@airlessmean).

On day 1, Kev took us to several aircraft crash sites, where we could inspect the wreckage remains and show our respects to those who had lost their lives. I found this part of the trip to be highly interesting, thanks to Kev's historical knowledge concerning the crashed aircraft. After that, we then made our way over to Seal Stones where we found an excellent spot with fantastic views to setup camp for the night. I spent the evening chatting, eating and drinking and I had a great night before settling down for some sleep.

The following morning, I awoke to a beautiful day. Everything was covered in the morning dew, but with the sunshine, it didn't take long for it all to start drying up. Once we had our bags back on, we then headed back to the eastern side of Kinder near the Trig point, where Kev had left his Dog's lead the previous day. Luckily, the lead was still there, so Kev retrieved it and we headed back towards the southern edge path. Once we were back on the southern edge path, we headed towards Grindsbrook. From Grindsbrook, we then made our way to Crowden Brook, past the Woolpacks and onto the Trig point at Kinder Low.

From Kinder Low, we next headed to Redbrook, in the direction of the Downfall. At Redbrook, we collected some water before heading to our campsite for the evening. I had picked an excellent spot for the night, which had stunning views overlooking Kinder Reservoir. Once again, I spent the evening chatting, eating and drinking. I eventually fell asleep, only to be woken up, just after midnight, by howling winds and the noise of the rain hitting my tent. These weather conditions continued throughout the night, and consequently, I had little or no sleep. The following morning didn't see any abatement in the weather conditions, so we quickly packed up and decided to get down to lower ground where the wind strength would be less.

After getting down off Kinder via the Jacobs Ladder route, we then took the tarmac road, past Upper Brook Farm, and back into Edale and the car park. Yet again, this was another fantastic trip out. Kev's knowledge of the aircraft wreck sites (as well as his general knowledge of Kinder) made the trip much more enjoyable.👍🙂
