Raritan Central High Hood GP38-2s on a Beautiful Saturday Morning

On Saturday November 11th, 2023, Veterans Day, my great friends Kyle (‪@TrainiacProductions‬) and Sheldon (‪@sheldonnicholasphotog‬) took a quick morning trip to the Raritan Central Railroad in Edison, NJ, with intentions of catching the morning job out of the Raritan Center, RC-1. The Raritan Central Railroad works various customers around the busy industrial park known as the Raritan Center in Edison, NJ, interchanging with Conrail Shared Assets in Metuchen. This railroad is known for their red rolled-on paint, duct tape lettering and diverse little fleet of EMDs. It's been a few years since I've covered RC, and when I heard they'd be using their "newest" engines, former NS/Southern GP38-2 duo 5145 and 5107, we made the trip.

These guys run early, going on duty around 5:30 AM, running to Metuchen Yard and then returning. We caught them as they returned from Metuchen to yard their train, before setting out to work their Northfield Running Track customers, as well as the Home Depot Distribution Center off Clearview Road. Huge props the RC-1 crew for being friendly throughout the day, it's always nice when the railroad realizes who's the responsible buffs out there.
