Deep somewhat obscure dawless progressive house w. SE-02, JX-08, Microfreak, Volca FM, Model:Samples

Let’s make the SE-02 roar! This boutique really has some serious character and I really love how it sounds when pushed even just a bit towards it’s limits. For this jam I added some x-modulation and feedback on the SE-02 for some dirt and darkness on the sound! The filter dynamics are added by using the modulation strip on the KSP. The SE-02 is running through the NTS-1 with an HPF and reverb.

The JX-08 plays the bass and the sharp lead sound that you can hear in the intro just before the bass drops in. For the bass I went from a buttery smooth to an acid style sound by tweaking the VCF envelope amount and resonance. The sharp lead sound also has some added modulation around the middle of the jam for some detuning, although I feel I went a bit far, mainly because the mod strip on the KSP doesn’t help much for having good control over the amount of modulation. As your fingers get sweaty the strip starts to show some erratic behavior. You can clearly see it in the video.

I was pretty lazy with the Microfreak and I used the same sound as in my previous jam, sorry for that hehe!

Regarding the Volca FM, I tried to improvise by playing some notes but it just proved that I’m far from a great keyboard player as I’m pretty bad for playing the notes in time.

The Model:Samples acts as a drum machine like in all my previous jams, so, nothing new here.

Finally, the SE-02 and the JX-08 run thru the Alesis Nanocomp which is sidechained to the M:S for the ducking/pumping effect.
