Описание к видео The Execution Of The First Man Guillotined In France

The guillotine was an execution device which was used heavily in France during the French Revolution and the Reign of Terror. It was even used up to the 1970s and the guillotine would take the heads off the French King and Queen and some of the most infamous politicians including Robespierre. But the first guillotine execution was performed upon a man who was a highwayman.

Nicolas Jacques Pelletier was a thief who robbed a man in Paris, and it was considered a violent robbery and for this he was sentenced to death. His death sentence was confirmed a number of times whilst the guillotine was being tested by executioners. But then the time came for his execution and Pelletier became the first person to be executed on the guillotine. He would be executed less than a year before the King was.
