In this Physics (Gravitation) video lecture in Hindi for class 11 we explained escape velocity of a planet and derived the formula for escape velocity from the concept of work done in bringing a mass to infinity. Escape velocity of a celestial body is the minimum speed with which a mass can be projected from that body so that it leaves the gravitational field of that celestial body.
During the derivation of the formula of escape velocity we found that, for earth, it is √(2GM/R) or √(2gR), where G is the universal gravitational constant, M is the mass of the planet (in this case - earth), r is distance of the point, from the centre of the planet, from which the mass is to be projected, g is the acceleration due to gravity at the point.
