Differentials 101: Beginner's Guide to Differential Repair. ( How Differentials Work )

In this video I'm going to go over the basics of automotive differentials. We are going to cover the basics of how they function as well as covering the basics of what is involved in rebuilding a differential. The first thing that we will go over is how the ring and pinion rotates the tires. Then, we are going to talk about what pinion depth, backlash, and bearing preload are. Next, we will cover some basic parts selection for a performance rebuild. Finally, we will cover how to calculate a new ring and pinion ratio to compensate for a change in tire size.
