2017 saw many highly competitive tennis matches across the Hawaiian Island chain. However, the majority of those matches ended up taking place during a single fortnight. Yep, you guessed it! The annual Kailua Men's Night Doubles at KRC played the host to these epic contests that year!

One day prior to our video, two of the most dramatic semi final matches occurred back to back! One of those matches emerged 3rd seeded Hendrik Bode & former ATP pro Michael Yani! The veterans upset the #1 seeds & defending champions Ikaika Jobe & Dennis Lajola, who had won the Kailua Night Doubles 4 times together over the span of 8 years. It took them 3 sets & into the late Kailua evening to pull off the victory, riding lots of momentum in what they were hoping would be their 2nd Night Doubles title each. Their opponents, 4th seeded Mikael Maatta & Jan Axel Tribler, also endured a tough road to the championship match that year! In their semi final, Maatta & Tribler out-dueled a hard charging young team of Marcel Chan Jr. & Corey Pang, two recently graduated Division 1 college tennis players. Their match went back & forth, coming from behind multiple times to eventually put away the young guns, setting up a Night Doubles final match to remember.

When these two doubles teams met that Saturday night for the tournament championship, it turned out to be one of the most competitive & memorable Kailua Men's Night Doubles Finals in a long time!
