Many thanks to everyone who commented on my last video saying that the issues were probably being caused by a bad battery. To my amazement, all of the issues I was having with my Speed Twin (startup issues, computer rebooting, stalling at idle, refusing to start, ABS malfunction, odometer stopping for a few miles at a time) were all the result of a bad battery. Mine was over two years old, and sure enough, replacing it with a new OEM battery cured all of the issues. There's still the possibility that a bad regulator/rectifier is what killed the battery in the first place, but I think it's more likely that the original battery was at the end of its service life.

It turns out that the Koso Apollo heated grips were not a contributing factor to these problems; the cooked battery terminal cover was because I didn't use a ring terminal for the positive wire of the heated grips, and the copper slowly lost contact and heated up. I'll be reconnecting them via a relay sometime before the weather gets cold again.
