Here is a quick look at developing a quality swing for the backhand drive. We have been working on this for several months and the strength and body control is really coming along.
A compact prep is quick and fully controlled and this primes power in the body drive and then arm swing which should not rely on a huge follow through so the player can maintain balance and come of the ball early.
Much of this is static practice, the next step is to include more movement prior to the strike then increase the difficulty and vary the position before adding more defined targets.
This is a weekly part of the lesson on the backhand drive before moving on to other skills and the improvement has been dramatic, pretty good for 10 years of age.
