Cycling France: The "Mini" Alpe d'Huez climb is better ! Col du Solude & Oulles from Bourg d'Oisans

Описание к видео Cycling France: The "Mini" Alpe d'Huez climb is better ! Col du Solude & Oulles from Bourg d'Oisans

Cycling in France is amazing. The famous Alpe d'Huez climb from Tour de France has a less known neighbor climb that is actually much nicer. The "Mini" Alpe d'Huez, as it is called on Strava, the Col du Solude, is a narrow and twisty road situated just on the mountain facing the more famous real Alpe d'Huez. Both of the climbs can be done starting from Bourg d'Oisans, in the French Alps off course.

Cycling on less know routes like this one, tackling underrated climbs, has proven so many times to me that can bring you much more joy than the more famous ones.

The complete road cycling route that we filmed this video is: Bourg d'Oisans - Villard-Reymond - Col du Solude - Villard-Notre-Dame - balcons - Bourg d'Oisans - Oulles climb - Bourg d'Oisans.

Here is also the Strava link:

There are 2 climbs on the way: Col du Solude (The "Mini" Alpe d'Huez) and Oullles village climb. Both of them are quite difficult:
Col du Solude: 9.8km, 7.3% average slope, 750m gain
Oulles climb: 7.9km, 8.7% average slope, 700m gain.
So, if you compare both of them with the real Alpe d'Huez climb (13.9km, 7.9% average slope, 1.100m gain) you can clearly see why this nickname.

The real Alpe d'Huez is a Tour de France symbol, as it appeared so many times in Le Tour route. There are also many other routes with famous climbs that you can ride starting from Bourg d'Oisans: Col du Galibier, Col de la Croix de Fer, Col du Glandon, Col du Lautaret. Cycling Alpe d'Huez is for sure one for the bucket list. Cycling Galibier the same. Every cyclist, amateur or pro, dreams about riding those famous climbs one day.

However, we enjoyed the most the day spent cycling on this less known cycling route. Less car traffic, more secluded, amazing landscape and 2 hard but beautiful climbs.

Col du Solude and Oulles are 2 beautiful climbs that should be done if you are in the region.

Be careful about the descend from Col du Solude on the Villard-Notre-Dame side: there are 4 km of gravel. Also, the balcons route, after the village, has some tunnels without light and the road is quite exposed, high on the mountain side.
