Today, we will delve into a topic that often surprises many: the Narcissist's act of hiding. Have you ever considered that a narcissist might intentionally disappear? When you no longer hear from them, or when they seem to vanish, there is often more to it than meets the eye. Let us explore this phenomenon in detail.
When a narcissist is nowhere to be found, particularly after a period of engagement, it can be perplexing. Following what might appear to be a "discard," you may have even experienced a few "hoover" attempts, regardless of whether you initiated the separation or the narcissist did. The distinction here is crucial: if the narcissist was the one who seemed to "discard" you, it was not a true discard in the conventional sense. Instead, you were likely "shelved". This means they set you aside for a future date and time, holding you in reserve. It is not the definitive separation we typically associate with a discard.
In reality, the true, final discard is often controlled by the survivor—the individual who was once the narcissist's target. A narcissist rarely, if ever, truly discards their targets permanently. They prefer to keep a roster of potential sources of validation and attention, much like a meticulous collector. However, let us focus on those instances where the narcissist has seemingly vanished from your life.
You might find them absent from social media, completely out of reach. There are a few key reasons for this disappearance. The most common assumption, and often the case, is that the narcissist is preoccupied with a new Supply. I refer to this as the "illusion of new Supply" because, in my view, a narcissist rarely finds a truly singular, new Supply. They are perpetually seeking additional sources, always on the hunt for individuals to align with their agenda. It is imperative to understand that you and the narcissist will never truly be a "team" in the sense of an equal partnership. You will merely be on their team, serving their needs. Let us be absolutely clear on this point.
Therefore, never entertain the notion that you will be the narcissist's sole focus or exclusive partner. That is simply not how they operate. Their world involves you and numerous others. They are continuously seeking out new Supply. This relentless pursuit stems from an insatiable need for validation, a bottomless pit that no single individual can ever fill. Think of it like trying to fill a sieve with water; no matter how much you pour in, it just keeps leaking out. That's the narcissistic void.
While it is often true that their absence is due to their engagement with new Supply, there are other, less common scenarios that are just as significant, if not more so. Consider this: some of you watching this video may have exited a relationship with a narcissist and, in doing so, effectively left a blazing trail after your departure. You emerged from that situation in a blaze of glory, fundamentally altering the dynamic. If you navigated this separation with the strength and resolve of a true leader—whether you identify as a "king boss" or a "queen boss"—and if, after overcoming the initial pain, you elevated yourself on every level, feeling and presenting better than ever before, then the narcissist is indeed hiding.
