A fantastic field got the finish it deserved in the final Classic of the season as the grey Capri, trained by Aidan O'Brien and ridden by Ryan Moore, powers on strongest to win the William Hill St Leger at Doncaster.

Winner of the Irish Derby earlier in the season, Capri brought the strongest form to the table in this year's renewal of the world's oldest Classic despite the strong credentials of other contenders, and that form was improved upon to land the St Leger. Jockey Ryan Moore was winning the Classic for the first time, while this was a fifth St Leger victory for trainer Aidan O'Brien.

What next for the winner? The Qatar Prix de l'Arc de Triomphe is an option for Capri, while it seems likely the colt will stay in training next season as a four-year-old.

"He's probably a mile-and-a-half horse but we saw today that he has a great deal of courage and stamina," said trainer Aidan O'Brien.
