Shark Bay Off-Road Adventure | Dugongs, Dolphins, Manta Rays, Sharks and More! | Episode 53

Join us this week as we explore Shark Bay!

We take our caravan off-road through the sandy tracks of Francois Peron National Park and set up at the Big Lagoon camping area. This cracking little campsite makes the perfect base to settle in and explore the area.

First up, it's a trip up to the tip of Cape Peron and a few of the sights along the way. After a bumpy 4x4 track through soft sand and across salt pans, we reach the cape and are greeted by Manta Rays feeding in the changing tides. We also spot some small sharks in the shallows of the bay.

Not far around the corner is Skip Jack Point. This incredible lookout offers fantastic views of Shark Bay itself, and we get an introduction to some of the incredible wildlife that calls this place home. From the top, we spot a few Dugongs feeding on the seagrass beds, more Manta Rays cruising along with a few turtles and sea birds.

On the way back to camp, we call into Heron Bight. After a short drive down this incredible beach, we pull up for a quick afternoon swim in the warm water and spot some sting rays playing in the shallows. What an incredible day!

The next morning we headed into the most well-known area of Shark Bay, Monkey Mia. Famous for its wild dolphin encounters, where Liz and the kids were lucky enough to be selected from the crowd to hand feed one of the local dolphins.

Monkey Mia is a stunning location and a great spot to chill out, although it's very touristy and quite developed. After having fun with the local dolphins, we climbed aboard the Aristocat sailing catamaran for a sail around Shark Bay.

We had a great morning exploring the bay and spotted several dolphins, dugongs, turtles and some massive tiger sharks! We even jumped in the boom net off the back for a very cool but fun swim.

What better way to finish off the day than a soak in the spring-fed hot tub back at the homestead in the national park? Although the 40-degree water was a little warm for the kids, we absolutely loved it!
