Karijini's Oasis In The Desert | Kalamina Gorge, Fortescue Falls and Fern Pool | Episode 49

The Karijini adventure continues...
Join us this week as we continue to explore this incredible park and venture into some of the less-visited places. If you're into gorges, swimming holes and waterfalls, this one's for you! Make sure you stick around till the end for our top tips when visiting Karijini.

We kick things off at Kalamina Gorge. An incredible gorge that was great fun to explore with stunning layered rock and a trickling stream that we crisscrossed to get to the swimming hole.

We managed to get James to walk in on this one which is one of his first big hikes on his own two feet. After chilling in the shade for a bit, we had a refreshing swim before trekking back out for lunch.

After an afternoon hanging out at camp and enjoying being able to run our air conditioning off our batteries, we set off to a couple of Karijini's nearby lookouts.

We'd received the hot tip that Circular Pool and Three Ways lookouts were best visited at sunset, and we weren't disappointed. An incredible place to watch the day come to an end.

The following day was our last hike of this Karijini trip. Fortescue Falls is a relatively easy and well-formed trail consisting mainly of stairs. A stunning cascading waterfall with a pool at its base is perfect for swimming. We pushed on upstream a little further to Fern Pool, an absolute oasis in the surrounding landscape. Fern Pool was one of our favourite places in Karijini; don't miss this one!
