'To Sir With Love' is 1957 autobiographical novel by E.R. Braithwaite. The book revolves around the racial intolerance and the oppression of the blacks in post-war cosmopolitan England. In modern European nations, the author had expected to get a more welcoming and tolerant attitude from the society, but instead, he was forced to accept all the racial abuses hurled at him because of his dark skin complexion. E.R. Braithwaite had done everything possible to prove himself as capable a man as a white person, and at the same time, lent out a hand to poor children lost in their struggle for survival. With love, confidence and determination, he had turned uncouth pupils into respectable adults. 'To Sir With Love' was adapted into a 1967 film starring Sidney Poitier. This book is a must-read as it explains the oppression, discrimination, segregation and racial intolerance that the blacks had to face in post-war cosmopolitan England. It also represents the fact that with courage, determination and confidence, we can accomplish even the impossible.
