Steroid Injections After Gynecomastia Surgery (SCAR TISSUE REDUCTION)

After three previous gynecomastia surgeries (two from other surgeons), our patient is in the office with Dr. Caridi for a steroid injection. This treatment will help soften and shrink the scar tissue that has built up under his nipple-areolar complex. Scar tissue formation after gynecomastia surgery is common but treatable. The more times your chest is treated, the more likely you are to from scar tissue. This is the main reason we stress the importance of post-operative massage and rolling.

This patient is given an injection of Kenalog, a steroid, in his nipple-areolar complex which is then immediately massaged. It is important to apply pressure to the area through massage which works in tandem with the scar tissue reduction injection to soften and reduce the size of the scar tissue.

Patients should only receive steroid injections once every 8 weeks. If a patient receives injections sooner than this they can run the risk of creating holes in the body if given in excessive quantities, which Dr. C actively avoids. He uses two types of Kenalog solutions, a “10” and a “40.” It is important to note this is not the type of steroids that bodybuilders and athletes use; it is a localized injection into the scar rather than a full-body delivery.

Scar tissue reduction treatment after gynecomastia surgery is a wonderful way to aid in making scar tissue less noticeable and decrease in size. Several cosmetic surgeons and other medical professionals offer scar tissue reduction steroid injections, so do not worry if you cannot easily travel to the Austin Gynecomastia Center because the injections can be performed by someone closer. However, as always, make sure to do your research to increase the odds you receive the best results possible.
