Crossroads Mall | Albertville, AL | Vintage Mall That Died in the 1980's, Still Around Today.

Located in Albertville, Alabama, and once known as the Marshall County Mall, this mall opened in 1973 and was anchored by W.T Grants and Bruno's Supermarket. A two screen movie theater was located at the back of the mall detached from the mall, atleast originally, and later the mall was expanded to connect the two. W.T Grants closed with the chain in 1976, and was replaced with Woolworth. The interior of this mall was shuttered in 1981, which is an oddity, as the mall was only 7 or 8 years old by that point. The interior sat closed until 1989 when the mall was purchased by new owners, and reopened. A renovation into much of how the mall is today was performed, including the name change to 'The Crossroads'. When both Bruno's Supermarket and Woolworth closed, their respective spaces were subdivided into smaller retail spaces. Today, the Crossroads Mall has an interior that's pretty dead, and the only real draw is an Alabama tag office located within. A Planet Fitness, a Dollar General, a Thrift Store and a Medical office call the former anchor spaces home. This mall is a beautiful example of a vintage 1970's turned 1980's mall with the brown tile and planter beds, and is worth a visit while you can still walk its halls as an open facility.
