Eagle - The Movie - Part 1 (VTS 01 1)

The definitive Eagle video of all time. I do not make this statement lightly. If Eagle built it, it is in this video. Countless companies bought and ran Eagle buses. This video covers up to the purchase of Eagle by Mexico.

In the beginning, buses were just stretched out automobiles, sometimes referred to as Jitneys. Because cars were not very popular then, these Jitneys got a lot of use mostly running around and between towns.

Later the Greyhound lines were born and were growing rapidly by gobbling up the industry by buying the mom and pop bus lines all over the country. Eventually bus manufacturing companies were making buses specifically designed to be solely by Greyhound.

Trailways came along later and it took them a long time to catch up with Greyhound but they did not have the financial backing that Greyhound had so they could not provide the same level of service for a long time.

Air ride suspension came along in 1954 claiming it will give the passengers limousine style comfort. Well, not quite.

Some buses were designed with Solar Rooms, which did not work out very well as they quickly discovered and you will see why in this video.

Then there is the Golden Eagle 5-Star service. Who remembers that luxury level of service on buses where they had flight attendants onboard to take care of your every need?

60-foot-long buses then came along but were limited as to where they could travel. They were only allowed in a very few states. There are very few remaining in this country today, but at least one well known star traveled in luxury in his converted long bus.
