BHAKTAPUR is The BEST Unesco Town in the WORLD (Nepal VLOG)

This is probably the best UNESCO site in the world! Bhaktapur is an ancient town that will give you medieval vibes, is located in the Kathmandu Valley. It really looks like time paused here and that’s probably why we loved Bhaktapur, in Newari Khwopa - “The city of Devotees”.

In this Nepal vlog, we will take you around the unique old narrow alleys, Durbar Square with its incredible Newari towering temples, show you the pottery tradition and some typical local food.

As per the food we tried the famous Bhaktapur joghurt, which is called “Juju Dhau”. This is a Newari term that translated to “The King of Curds”. We could not have enough of it! Simply delicious! It’s thick and sweet, normally served in a clay pot which gives a lovely taste. The thickness is achieved by boiling the milk for a long time.

We have also tried Kulfi, a sort of milk ice cream with flavoured ingredients at your choice such as almonds, cardamom. It’s a must if you want to sit, relax and do people watching at Durbar Square.

And we can’t forget the amazing newari pancake of lentils, so soft! It is called “Bara” and you can find the best one at “Hole in the Wall” - honestly, we had so many bara pancakes that we were exploding!

One of the sweetest local experience we had so far was entering a local Newari house and a local woman taught us how to make some pottery and clay vase. She offered us some food and tea, we could not communicate but we still managed to connect and it was beautiful.

One place you should visit is the Lama Thanka Center a non profit school. Thangka Art is Tibetan Buddhist painting on cotton, silk appliqué, usually depicting a Buddhist deity, scene, or mandala (with four elements and the writing Om mani padme hum). We even saw a mandala made of colourful sand. Lama Thanka Center
