Rai Ahmad Khan Kharal is a well-known historical figure. He was a Punjabi freedom fighter who was the first line of defense against the British raj in Punjab during the Indian War of Independence 1857. He was moved by the pain of people of the fertile land of Punjab. Rai Ahmad Khan Kharal opted to fight in guerilla warfare style to help his people and keep them safe from massive troops of the British East India Company. Two conspirators from his land, Sarfraz Kharal and Nehan Singh Bedi sold their Soul to British forces. Kharal was shot dead by Gulab Singh Bedi on the orders of Berkeley on September 21, 1857, when he was offering prayers.
