Wilds of Africa - Dallas Zoo

On our way to Wilds of Africa we begin our trek at the entrance to the Dallas zoo and walk past a few displays promoting Dino Safari. Just a little ways up the pathway and we come across our first exhibit Lemur Lookout.

Lemur Lookout - Ring-Tailed, Black-and-white ruffed, Collared Lemurs.

Continuing on and into the tunnel, we find information about National Geographics PHOTOARK. Where we are asked to share our photos and help spread the word about animals at risk in the wild with #SaveTogether. On the other side of the tunnel we enter the Wilds of Africa and come across our first two habitats on this side

Penguin Cove - African Penguins
Cheetahs

Giants of the Savanna is a 11 acre expansion to the Wilds of Africa that opened on May 28th, 2010 at the cost of $32.5 million, winning a special recognition from the AZA in October of 2011.

Elephants, Giraffes, Zebra, Lions and Painted Dogs. Other species like the Wart Hogs, Impalas, Ostriches and Guineafowl were off exhibit on our visit.

The other portion of the Wilds of Africa opened in 1990 and here we find the Gorilla Conservation Research Center. This 2 acre habitat is home to Western Lowland Gorillas.

Wattled Cranes and the Aviary were both closed and off exhibit.

Crocodile Isle - Nile Crocodiles

Kimberly-Clark Chimpanzee Forest

Kopje - Klipspringers, Rock Hyraxes and Meerkats

Simmons Hippo Outpost - Opened in 2017.
