DIESSEN at the AMMERSEE. A small but intersting village at the west part of the lake. (Germany)

Welcome to a new video at the Ammersee. Today we visit the village Diessen at the Ammersee loceated at the south west part of the lake. Diessen is more a village as a town but has many things to see like the imperial muenster or the nice promenade at the lake. Find out more in my video.


The trip:
I visited Diessen at the Ammersee on a sunny day in springtime 2024. I knew this place at the west side of the Ammersee for many years in particular the Muenster.
I started the tour at the street where everyone can come very easy to the port. Diessen is like many other villages and towns at the south part of Munich known for the special art painting at walls of houses called Lüftel painting. After exploring the marking place I went to the promenade and had the opportunity to see an arrival and departure of a ferry. I spent one minute inside the lake museum. At last I went by car to the Muenster, the building which is famous for Dießen. According that some Family members of me life in this region I have been in this Muenster more time in the last years.
This short hop to Diessen was the first trip which was combined with a tour to all places.


The town Diessen at the Ammersee:
Diessen at the Ammersee is a town located at the west cost of the Ammersee at the district Swabian at the federal state Bavaria in Germany. Diessen is known for a fishermen’s village and around the marking place both along the promenade are some fish restaurants where the fish from the Ammersee is served. At a walk into the village is popular to see the known Bavarian art painting called “Lüftelmalerei” in German language. This kind of painting are only at front and sidewalls of old Bavarian buildings and shown mostly figures from the catholic church, holy rulers, and the traditional life of Bavaria from the past. At the promenade its nice to walk and to spent time especially good in summertime. From April to the end of September some ships connect the villages along the lake like Herrsching at the east coast with Diessen or Stegen at the north part with Diessen and Utting.


About the Muenster of Diessen Maria Himmelfahrt:
The building which is famous for the village is the Munster located at the edge of Diessen. This church in Baroque style has a wide view to the landscape and is next to monastery Andechs the second biggest church at between the lake Starnberg and the Ammersee. In the main hall there are many holy rulers at the side part together with eagles and at the top there are many painted frescos like at Italy in the church of the holy Assisi. At the altar there are the top holy rulers of the lord Jesu Christ like the first pope Petrus, the apostle Paulus, Moses as well.
Especially at Christmas, Easter and Pfingst in this Munster are traditional masses. To take part at a mass at Christmas time is definitely a unforgettable experience.
