Johannes Brahms (1833-1897)'s Hungarian Dances No. 5 is one of the most famous of his 21 Hungarian dances. The dances were originally composed for piano continuo, but has been arranged for a variety of instrumentation, the most famous being the violin version arranged by his close friend Joseph Joachim (1831-1907).

The structure of the piece is in the form A-B-C-A-B, with each section dramatically developing different emotional changes through modulations and the addition of new melodies. A highlight of the violin performance of this passionate, rhythmic Hungarian folk-influenced work is the use of bow control and changes in dynamics to express its passion and skill to the fullest!

As some of you may have noticed, a happening occurred in the first half of the performance when the bow hairs broke. If a string breaks, the performance has to be interrupted, but it is quite common for a single bow hair to break, and it does not directly affect the performance. I guess I just got excited!
