Описание к видео Romantic Victorian Ashford Castle | Cong, Ireland

Ashford Castle is one of the greatest of castles in all of Ireland. The location and grounds are truly spectacular. Nestled only 5-minute drive from the village of Cong which is jam packed full of history and olde-worlde charm. Ashford Castle has expanded over the centuries from a medieval castle to a romantic Victorian castle hotel. Through the grand stone gates unraveling service beings, with a warm Irish hospitality and five-star experience. This castle was built in 1228, nearly 800 years ago.

This old castle became a grand historic structure featuring a massive historic stone façade, complete with towers and turret which became home of the Guinness family which hosted countless notables over the years including The Prince of Wales, King George V, and President Ronald Reagan, and served as a backdrop for the movie “The Quiet Man” in 1951. Sir Benjamin Guinness acquired the property back in 1852 and over a span of 63 years, the Guinness family extended it to 26,000 acres.

What really makes Ashford Castle so special are its activities, horseback riding, fishing, and Ireland’s first school of falconry, just to name some. In 1939, Noel Huggard purchased the 83-room castle and 365 acres from the Guinness Family Trust which has operated as a hotel ever since with activities to entertain the whole family for days.
