Ep2. Waterproofing and Insulation of Backyard Pond

Описание к видео Ep2. Waterproofing and Insulation of Backyard Pond

Waterproofing and insulating is the second video in my 'Backyard Garden Pond' series. Frame for the fish pond has already been built and now it is time to waterproof the inside of the pond to extend the life of the timber and pond itself. For insulation of my backyard pond I have used thick sheets of Styrofoam which pretty much fills all the gaps created between 90x45mm timber. 12mm marine plywood is used on the inside of the pond and it provides excellent strength and stiffness and won't deteriorate due to exposure to moisture. Despite, full hardwood construction, I have waterproof both sides of the wood to prolong the life of the backyard garden pond as Melbourne weather can get very harsh on timber.

I found myself in trouble when I realized that only 1 piece of plywood would fit inside the pond and rest I had to cut before adding. This is something you could avoid by researching size of plywood and making pond accordingly. Garden pond started to take shape after I added treated pine deck boards. Frame for the glass window looks a lot better and I was happy to add some timber on the inside of the pond to hold the glass in place. Even though this idea came to my mind bit late but it was still early to do it. I have written a detailed article on how to extend the life of a wooden pond on my blog, you might find it informative https://www.fishaholic.net/2021/09/wa....

This is not the best garden pond in the backyard but I have put in quite a lot of hours and energy into building this pond. I really hope you will enjoy this video and might inspire some of you to build your own above ground fish pond.
