Navigating the construction regulation agencies of Alabama can be quite confusing. First of all, you must understand that there are 5 separate regulation boards that oversee licensing.

They are:

Alabama Board of General Contractors
Alabama Home Builder's Licensure Board
Board of Heating, Air-Conditioning, and Refrigeration
Electrical Contractors Board
Plumbers and Gas Fitters Examining Board

In this video, we focus primarily on the first one. The Alabama Board of General Contractors.

To get licensed you will need to meet the basic requirements:

18 years of age
Social Security Number
USA Identification
3 Work-Related References
$10,000 minimum net worth

You can then select your classification.

There are 4 major classifications available for contractors in the state of Alabama:

Building Construction
Highways & Streets
Municipality & Utility
Heavy & Railroad

Each classification has a series of subclassifications that you can choose to get licensed in if you choose not to go for the major classification.

If you choose the Building Construction license. You will be required to pass two examinations:
