The Alabama Home Builders License is a requirement for anyone looking to engage in residential construction work that exceeds $10,000 in labor and materials.

In the state of Alabama there are 5 separate agencies that regulate construction:

Alabama Home Builders Licensure Board
Alabama Board for General Contractors
Board of Heating, Air-Conditioning, and Refrigeration
Electrical Contractors Board
Plumbers and Gas Fitters Examining Board


To be licensed to perform residential construction work in Alabama you will need to meet the basic requirements:

19 years of age
USA Identification
Social Security Number
Pass a Credit Report Check
Hold Current Liability Insurance
Have a $10,000 Bond (Roofers Only)

In addition, you will need to pass a two-part examination:

80 Questions of Law & Business
80 Questions of Residential Construction Skills

Your Law & Business Exam will cover:

The Residential Construction Exam will cover:

Plan Reading
Site-work

There are three types of licenses you can choose to obtain:

Unlimited License
Limited License
Roofing License
