This little clip portrays some wonderful moments that I have been able to capture on film during my time with Dan and Sabine Birmann in Germany. Horses are a symbol for strength , power and freedom. Shouldn't it be our duty to preserve this energy, accompanied by beauty, elegance and grace, the way it has been given to us?
Ethologist Sabine Birmann believes so, she has over 20 years of specialised experience with horses. Her extensive research as a scientist made her an expert in observing the behaviour of animals.
Her work gives you insight on what it is to truly connect with a horse and share a mutual journey of development together.
Sabine gives her students the tools to build 'a house' and maybe an example of a finished palace. But how you build it, and what kind of house it may be, is up to you. Every building style is different, every house has its own style and so, every bond between a horse and human, is personal and unique. It is not about being perfect but about learning from mistakes. Consequently her work is rhetorical, people need to experience, listen, feel and learn to listen to their intuition.
Once you become aware of your own body language, the signals you send to the horse, and the meaning of the horse's response you can start to communicate.
Her type of 'work' with the horse differs from most other training techniques or methods as the ability to recognise the character, nature and emotions of the horse is taught. Perceiving these will enable us to work according to the horses needs. Whether it be giving the horse a boundary, structure, kindness, or freedom, one needs to sense what is most meaningful for the horse in this very moment, for this very horse, and act accordingly. The work with the horse is free, expressive, dynamic and creative.

Instead of the horse adapting to our artificial ways, we share this natural way with the horse;
