Palleelachan short movie:

The short film Palleelachan showcases the story of a Parish Priest Fr. Paul whose undaunting missionary zeal, love and care for his parishioners is very realistically depicted with all the contemporary challenges faced by all Christian communities. At one side most of the parishioners are affected by the Covid situation and on the other end the gentile communities are seducing Christian girls in the name of love and promising fabulous life.         Fr. Paul’s character shines like a true disciple of Jesus especially when Vallapozhum Jose confesses to  him that he had paid his accomplice Theepettikolli Simon to trap the priest with false allegation. Fr. Paul says “Do not tell this to anyone else. If other parishioners come to know this truth, they will beat you up to death.  Anyway, I am leaving this church” Fr. Paul is capable of even loving his enemy too.  A model vicar who loves all the families of that parish equally and all the children of the parish like his own children, Fr. Paul mingles with the children with the same frolicking mannerism of children. At the same time, he is able to capture the love and affection of the young minds. This is visible at the end of the movie when the boys say they want to join seminary and girls want to become nuns. When daughter of AZ Varghese is adamant to go with one boy of gentile community, Fr. Paul narrates his own tragic story to her and persuades her to change her mind. He empathizes with the suffering and helps them. At the farewell speech Fr. Paul tears down the shallow and superficial nature of the religious community and explains the value of a parish priest and how the older generation esteemed and venerated a priest as a representative of Jesus Himself. Quoting Psalm 105:15 “Do not touch my anointed ones; do my prophets no harm,” he strongly admonishes them not to hurt the blessed priests of the Lord. He could touch the hearts of the community members and his short stint in the church could convert many, even the wicked Vallapozhum Jose who has turned in to a good man and offers a signed cheque book to Fr. Paul and requests him to give as much money to the needy as he wishes.

Rev. Fr. Paul’s character completely dominates the entire Movie. Each and every action, his dialogue and speech are very dignified and distinctive and consistent throughout the movie. Fr. Paul’s character emerges as a natural hero in the film. It is beyond doubt that our beloved VD Varghese Chettan had put his heart and soul to the character of Fr. Paul so dedicatedly that even the gods might have envied his performance. It is sad that the Lord had called him back to heaven last year, may be to assign greater tasks to him.

The Palleelachan movie is of great contemporary importance to all Christians. The film was well received by people is evident by the fact that, as on today it has crossed 60K views in You Tube channel. For this excellent work our Catechism director Rev. Fr. Eby Ottakandathil deserves all the praise and applause. We, the parishioners of SSCF are blessed with this young and ideal priest and Asst. Vicar.
