Arterial cannula connects the cardiopulmonary circuit to the patient and delivers oxygenated blood to the body. The cannulae are designed in such a way that the flow through them is smooth, without increased gradient at its tip. They are safe to use and the technique differs from unit to unit. However, depending on the site or arterial cannulation, the cannula is chosen and this is a team decision between the surgeon and the perfusionist.
