What is Midazolam (Versed)?

Midazolam belongs to a category of medications called Benzodiazepines. It depresses all levels of CNS, including limbic and reticular formation, probably through increased action of GABA, which is major inhibitory neurotransmitter in brain.

It is available as tablets, injection, syrup and nasal spray.

Midazolam is used for preoperative sedation, Conscious sedation for endoscopic or cardiovascular procedures, Induction of general anesthesia before general anesthetic, Maintenance of balanced anesthesia (short procedures), ICU sedation, Epilepsy, Seizures.
