From Orientalism to Postcolonialism

This is an overview of Edward Said's book Orientalism and its effect on the development of Postcolonialism.

Grounding the discussion of the entire approach is the poststructuralist account of the archaeology of knowledge presented by Michel Foucault, who saw the development of 'man' in the nineteenth century, concurrently with the rapid colonization of Africa by the European nations and the rise of a nationalism against a Darwinist backdrop.
