Meister Eckhart on hell in Jacob’s Ladder

Hell isn't what you might think for Eckhart. In the movie Jacob's Ladder, we hear about Eckhart on hell. But what does Meister Eckhart actually say about hell? Dr. Johnson answers this question by discussing and showing original texts, talking about the connection to detachment (the highest virtue for Eckhart), the nature of divine Being and the experience of hell even in this life.

Dr. Johnson teaches philosophy at Georgia Tech. He is the author of Paradox at Play: Metaphor in Meister Eckhart's Sermons by Catholic University of America Press. It includes many sermons never before translated into English in DW IV.2, numbered 87-109 (as well as 54a, 52, 2, and others).
