Periodontal ligaments | Principal and Gingival fibers

In this video lecture we have described the two fiber bundle groups that are Principal fiber group and Gingival fiber group.

The principal fibers are arranged in the following five groups.
1. Alveolar crest fibers
2. Horizontal Group
3. Oblique group of fibers (most numerous PDL fibers)
4. Apical group
5. Interradicular group (only present in multirooted teeth)

The Gingival fibers are also arranged in the following five groups.
1. Dentogingival Group (most numerous PDL fibers)
2. Alveologingival Group
3. Circular Group
4. Dentoperiosteal Group
5. Transseptal Fibers (known as interdental ligaments. Associated with Post retention relapse of orthodontically treated teeth)
