Screening SAPPHIRES, hunting SOAPSTONE: Back roads rockhounding in western Montana Part 3

Kate, Jim and Kava head to Philipsburg, home of the Gem Mountain sapphire mine, to take on a load of sapphire gravel and try their hand at screening. A short stop at a nearby creek proves less than fruitful, so Kate decides to break out the sapphire gravel bags. The creek is cool and beautiful, and so is the sapphire that shows up in the first scoop!

After hanging out at Flint Creek for a time, the group heads again for the talc mine near Dillon, Mt. Waste rock lines the gravel road, making picking up soapstone a carver's dream.
