Don't Follow Your Passion, Bring It With You | Jacob Morgan

"Follow your passion" is TERRIBLE career advice

We’re always told to follow our passions but there are a couple of issues with this..

First it assumes that your passion lives outside of you and you need to chase it.

Second it assumes that passion is one static thing

Lastly, most of us can’t even figure out our passion before we figure out what to pursue.

Our passion changes all the time as we gain new experiences in life.

I was never passionate about any of the things I'm doing now but as I do them and become good at it I became passionate about them.

There are plenty of passionate ball players who will never go pro. There are plenty of passionate actors who will never get cast in anything.

Just being passionate about something isn’t enough to make a viable living or generate revenue.

What is far more valuable is to bring your passion to everything you do.

You can have these passions in your life as hobbies but it doesn't mean you have to pursue them as ways to make a living.

So don’t follow your passion.

Bring your passion in everything you do.
