A ride on the Isle of Wight Steam Railway

Описание к видео A ride on the Isle of Wight Steam Railway

As mentioned in my video of 60163 Tornado at Upton Scudamore, dad and I recently took a trip to the Isle of Wight. We stayed from Tuesday 3rd September, arriving on the 08:45 ferry from Lymington, until Friday 6th, leaving on the 17:55 ferry from Yarmouth. The first two days were spent on the island's steam railway, spending one day riding up and down the line and the other filming from the lineside. The Tuesday and Wednesday saw the line running to their 'Red' timetable, which meant a two-train service, worked by LB&SCR A1 Class 0-6-0T no.W8 'Freshwater' and Hunslet Austerity 0-6-0ST no.WD198 'Royal Engineer'. The Thursday and Friday saw the 'Blue' timetable in operation, which meant only a one-train service, worked by 'Royal Engineer', although we spent those two days doing other things away from the railway.

This first video is one of two from our trip and features a ride along the line behind W8 'Freshwater'. Taking us from the railway's main operational base at Havenstreet up to Wootton, back down to Havenstreet where we pass 'Royal Engineer', then on to Smallbrook Junction where trains along the mainline (Also known as the Island Line) connect with those on the steam railway. After this it's time for the final run to Havenstreet, where the video concludes. As well as the on board footage, there're also a few lineside shots of 'Freshwater' spliced in in real time, or at least close to real time anyway!

Apologies if the on board footage gets a bit shaky at times, those 4-wheeled coaches can be very unforgiving!

Filmed on a Panasonic HDC-HS900 with Panasonic VW-VM2SE and Pro Sound L92AA (lineside shots only) microphones.

Enjoy.
