Birds of Myakka River State Park

Myakka River State Park located in Sarasota, Florida and is my favorite location on the Gulf Coast to photograph birds and other wildlife. It is considered by many to be the crown jewel of Florida's state parks and at around 37,000 acres it is one of the largest. If you are looking for a place in the Sarasota area to photography birds this location should be on the top of your list. Great place for bird watching, hiking, biking, kayaking and a fun place to spend the day.

I've been photographing at Myakka RSP over the past 25 years most of which I do in December and January. I have also participated in the annual Christmas Bird Count (CBC) for most of those years which has allowed me to explore much of the park. In addition I've been to the Lower Lake and Deep Hole four times. Once on a hike, twice on a guided driving tour and one time kayaking with a friend.
