Led by 1st-year Pacer head coach Rick Carlisle, All-Stars Ron Artest and Jermaine O’Neal, the NBA best 61-win Indiana Pacers held home court advantage through each round of the playoffs. They were met with Paul Pierce’s Celtics to start the postseason, quick 4-0 sweep. Their Semi-Final matchup proved a bit more challenging, as Miami’s young core pushed them to 6 games. Larry Brown’s Detroit Pistons (who Carlisle had coached previously) faced the reigning EC champion New Jersey Nets in the 2nd round. Detroit was able to avenge their ‘03 Conference Final loss, beating them in 7.
