Ep. 191 1/2 BONUS: 8 WAYS TO SAY "I LOVE YOU" WITH MOSAIC ART - PART 3
This is the second of eight videos showing different Valentine's Day mosaic ideas!
Welcome to my studio! Part 2 will show how to make a super sparkly tempered glass heart mosaic.

0:10 I'm starting with a 5"x5"x3/4" wood substrate from Michael's. I prime it with two coats of white Kilz primer, letting it dry between coats.
1:09 I measure the center and even edges before sketching a heart with pencil.
1:37 Next I paint the heart with acrylic paint in Medium Magenta, Alizeran Crimson and Titanium white. I'm going for a bright pink.
2:26 Then I add a Folk Art glitter paint, also from Michael's.
2:52 My tesserae is Decorative Filler from the Christmas season. It is tempered glass that is irridized. It is broken up, which makes it tweezer work.
3:41 I spread a little bit of Weldbond with my finger in an area small enough to fill in before it dries. Each piece of tempered glass has a slightly different pastel cast to it.
4:16 I like to establish a clean edge first and then fill in.
4:44 There was an unusually large island that I had to break up for consistancy.
6:27 I finish piecing it! Then I show off the super sparkler with light from the window.
6:34 Surprise! I'm working on another one. This one is bigger, it is in a tray, there is no glitter, and I painted it ombre from light to dark pink. I'm at the very end. The pieces are pretty small and it is taking a while.
7:30 I let the Weldbond dry overnight and now I'm taping it off so I get a nice clean edge on the grout. I'm using Spectralock I pre-mixed grout in smoke gray.
8:20 Using the same grout, I grout the second heart.
8:43 I love peeling away the tape - so satisfying!!! Then I buff the haze off.
9:20 It's the next day and there is one more step. I am going to paint the grout and background a contrasting pink and then wipe off the glass.
10:11 When wiping off the glass, I had to give it a minute to dry so I wouldn't just be smearing the paint around.
10:34 What? I show 6 other hearts I made!!! I found the painting part of this project drove me a little nuts waiting for the paint to dry between steps. When I made the 6 all at once it was more efficient since I prepped them all on one day, then made all the mosaics and grouted another day. There are so many options with color and glitter or collage under the glass!

That's Putting It Together Ep. 191 1/2. Thanks for watching! See you next time.
