Equalization is critical to freediving. It's one of the things that you will need to master in order to be able to go deeper. Introduced a bit more than a decade ago, the mouthfill equalization quickly became the preferred technique for depth. It was even referred to by most instructors as the only safe way of equalizing at depth, discarding any other ones. But are the other ways really so unsafe & useless?
