Etude in C# minor - Pius Cheung. Conrado Moya, marimba

Conrado Moya, marimba and percussion soloist, performs Etude in C# minor by the composer and marimbist Pius Cheung. This work is part of "Silentium", Conrado Moya's first marimba solo album.

Etude in C# minor was composed by Pius Cheung in 2008 as a part of his project to compose 24 etudes for marimba solo, one in each key, with Bach's The Well-Tempered Clavier or closer to Cheung's style Chopin's Etudes as precedents. However, in the words of Pius Cheung, "despite the title of 'Etude', it is not just a mere technical exercise but a short musical moment." Cheung describes the character of this musical moment as "quite sad and somber", pretending this way to "explore the potentials of the marimba to 'sing' in a lyrical and dramatic way." The score is self-published by Cheung and it is available on his website (www.piuscheung.com).
