I choose to change the filter with the fluid in the tank, my fluid only had 250 hours of use and still real clear. I would not recommend doing what I did if your fluid is NOT clear. Overall changing the hydraulic return filter took less than an hour. I would like to mention, have the serial number of your machine with you and make sure the parts counter is pulling the correct filters for your equipment. I was originally sold the wrong filter and I noticed the difference, so I had to stop what I was doing on a Saturday and wait till Monday morning for the dealer to open to obtain the correct filter.
